What it is:
Partial dentures are classified as removeable prosthesis. A partial will replace one or more missing teeth. They usually have a metal or acrylic substructure with acrylic teeth replacing the missing teeth. They stay in place by clasps which are like arms holding on the neighboring teeth.
They can be used to eat with and are the prosthesis of choice which a bridge or implant cannot be done.
Procedure:
Either an impression or 3D scanning is done to replicate the mouth. A shade or color is taken so the teeth match. A partial denture is designed and made then a few days later fitted to the patient.
Patient Benefits:
A partial denture can be a choice if an implant or bridge cannot be done. A partial denture is a good option when there are multiple missing teeth.
